Human Rights Management Policy

In July 2023, SK ecoengineering enacted 『The SK ecoengineering Human Rights Policy Statement』, which upholds and adheres to domestic labor relations laws, major conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact (UNGC).

The "Human Rights Policy Declaration" outlines SK Ecoengineering's commitment to prohibiting discrimination based on gender, race, or disability, respecting diversity, banning child labor, and ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment for both employees and business partners. Additionally, we emphasize social and environmental responsibility in all business practices.

  • Human Rights Impact Assessment

    SK Ecoengineering will identify and evaluate actual and potential human rights risks that may arise from our business activities.
    Through human rights risk assessments, SK Ecoengineering will analyze the impact of our operations on stakeholders' human rights and, if negative impacts are anticipated, proactively implement preventive or remedial measures to ensure that business activities remain human rights-friendly.

  • UN Global Compact (UNGC): A corporate initiative supported by the UN, comprising thousands of members across over 100 countries, aimed at proposing and enhancing corporate social responsibility
  • Ten Principles of the UNGC A global framework promoting corporate responsibility in human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption
  • Human Rights
    • Principle 1 : Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
    • Principle 2 : make sure they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
  • Environment
    • Principle 7 : Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
    • Principle 8 : undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
    • Principle 9 : encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
  • Labour
    • Principle 3 : Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
    • Principle 4 : the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
    • Principle 5 : the effective abolition of child labour; and
    • Principle 6 : the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

    • Principle 10 : Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

    • 1. Prohibition of Discrimination

      SK Ecoengineering does not discriminate in any business activities on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, age, social status, or political views without reasonable justification.

      SK Ecoengineering strictly prohibits all forms of forced labor that violate the free will of employees and stakeholders, including physical violence, threats, confinement, and human trafficking. We also ban child labor across all domestic and international business sites. However, if local laws permit employment under specific conditions, SK Ecoengineering may provide work opportunities while ensuring that the right to education is not restricted. * The definition of "child" is based on the legal standards of the respective country for overseas operations

The HR department serves as the central hub for fostering a culture of respect for human rights and is responsible for establishing human rights management policies, conducting human rights impact assessments, and implementing corrective actions. Additionally, to create a happy and motivating workplace, the department provides training on anti-discrimination, workplace harassment prevention, sexual harassment prevention, and disability awareness improvement.

Human Rights Management Goals and Initiatives

SK Ecoengineering has been conducting human rights surveys since 2023 to integrate human rights management into our operations, minimize negative impacts, and implement improvements. Through these surveys, we aim to establish detailed goals tailored to our needs and develop improvement plans for continuous implementation.

Human Rights Impact Assessment

SK Ecoengineering plans to conduct human rights impact assessments based on the following process: Indicator Selection – Stakeholder Identification – Key Human Rights Issue Identification – Checklist Development and Evaluation – Reporting and Follow-up Management. We will focus on key human rights issues identified through this process, implementing and executing improvement measures accordingly.
